Great food! No doubt there. But darn is it way too expensive. Yet... It is so good.
True Mom'n'Pop soul food. Buffet bar is appetizing and lots of great specials throughout the week. As a hardworking truck driver, I'm always happy to stumble across places like this.
I had the catfish an shrimp combo an it was downright bonified!! Simply delicious!!! The shrimps were gigantic with Cajun seasons an the fish was lightly breaded an seasoned to perfection. The service was friendly an i felt like I was down home. I recommend Big Johns to any family or just a single person like myself to enjoy authentic Louisiana down home cookin an hospitality!
The shrimp poorboy was not up to the same quay as the other meals that I have enjoyed at the restaurant. The sandwich was prepared properly. The shrimp were not. It was as if frozen precooked shrimp were fried. Go with the fried catfish.
It was hot here with condensation dripping from window units and floor fans in every room. It was crowded, which made us think it would be good, but we regretted doing the buffet. Most items were out and potatoes where dried up. Dinner rolls are deep fried, which I admit, tasted great, but made me feel sick later. There is only one stall in the bathroom which the door was very hard to open or close. I would recommend ordering off the menu... or driving another 30 minutes down the road. No place to change a baby's diaper either. Seafood here means fried shrimp or fried catfish. Service was fine. People were nice.... I only wish our server had told us we could order off the menu before half our group already got the buffet. We had to request a menu and she brought 1 menu for 6 people.
